Finnair AUNZ Sales Team

Problem?
Increase Motivation and Target Attainment

Solution?
Two-Part On-Site Workshop | Purpose Driven Workforce

Client Case Study

Finnair is the largest airline carrier of Finland, based in Helsinki. Its Sydney office engaged Candour Coaching to help inspire higher-level goals within their local sales team and provide some tools and actionable techniques they could utilise for target attainment.

Michael has an amazing ability to inspire, motivate action and then equip people and teams with the tools needed to reach their goals, whether short, medium or long-term. He was able to distill highly complex information around goal setting and target attainment into easy-to-understand and relatable content that we could apply immediately as individuals and as a team. The feedback from the team was very positive and I saw immediate effects on their attitude and performance. Michael’s enthusiastic and no-nonsense approach was highly refreshing and I look forward to working with him again in the future.
— Arnaud Michelin - Country Manager Australia - New Zealand, Finnair
  • To support Finnair’s sales team, we facilitated our Inspired to Action workshop - a 2-hour intensive forum covering performance theories, personal and corporate values, goal setting and the importance of daily actions for target attainment. To measure the transfer of knowledge and provide learning feedback to reinforce the theories discussed, we also completed anonymous surveys with participants both before and after the workshop.

  • The 2-hour intensive workshop was split into two parts. The first was an introduction to motivation and performance theories as well as a discussion on personal and corporate values. To help participants uncover their individual values, we led a self-reflection exercise using several theories including ‘Ikigai’ and the hierarchical ‘Values > Areas of Life > Goals’ structure. This was followed by identifying the overlap between team members’ own values and the values of Finnair.

The second part of the workshop focused on goal setting and the importance of daily actions in target attainment. Participants were able to set their own goals in different areas of their life, including in their career, relationships, fitness and recovery. We then worked with participants to create their own ‘signposts’ - short-term actionable steps they could complete on a daily or weekly basis to achieve their goals. Finally, we introduced participants to the theoretical and practical components of habits, routine and discipline, and how to create positive habits to achieve their signposts more efficiently.

  • Through anonymous surveys completed before and after the workshop, we were able to measure the transfer of knowledge in 6 key areas of learning. The results show the Finnair sales team received considerable uplift in all areas of knowledge.

Understanding the factors and theories of value-based goal setting: 44% improvement

Ability to link work goals with life fulfillment: 56% improvement

Clarity in personal values and goals: 67% improvement

    Habit creation 33% improvement

Clarity in path to success: 56% improvement

Understanding of reasons to perform at work 67% improvement

    Upheld changes: 78% retention rate

Ultimately, this knowledge base will help support the Finnair sales team to better understand their personal values and create a clearer pathway to achieve their targets by ensuring their daily actions are aligned with their values and goals.

Problem?
Career Clarity & Direction + Effective Leadership Communication

Solution?
Three Virtual Workshops | Purpose Driven Workforce + 12 week 1:1 Coaching

Client Case Study

Women@ Google is Google AU’s largest employee resource group. Candour Coaching facilitated a professional & personal development programme for senior individual-contributors and people managers to assist with individual career clarity and strategic direction, improve corporate communication, and provide executive coaching for personal reflection & growth.

  • We executed 3x interactive virtual workshops with the entire cohort and held 4x individual coaching sessions for each participant.

The virtual workshops were delivered via google meets by way of interactive presentations, breakout conversations and accompanying workbooks. We targeted two of these sessions for developmental growth and one workshop as an active skill session. The group workshops were held concurrent to the individual coaching.

  • The individual coaching sessions were tailored to the needs of each participant and whilst we share their effectiveness below and speak of some broad reflections, outcomes & insights, we do not elaborate on any detailed subject matter.

There were 3x Interactive Workshops held.

    Self-Understanding;

Confident and motivated performance is the result of: clear internal desires; attractive external rewards; and a clear strategy to achieve success.

Through self-reflection and guided techniques we led participants to better understand themselves and their motivators. Uncovering personal reasons provides a foundation of clarity and direction to our personal professional goals. Similarly, aligning these personal reasons with the broader values & purpose of the immediate team (or organisation-at-large) leads to more fulfilled, energetic and happier workers.

    Corporate Communication;

For impactful conversations and negotiations we need both self-confidence and effective communication.

This workshop used Self-Efficacy Theory and Imagery Intervention to create personal practices that lead to more confident interactions, as well as deeper and more effective communication.

We used exercises that elicit active listening and a deeper understanding of non-verbal communication, helping guide participants to explicitly convey their point of view, and expectations.

    Self-Regulation;

We focused on two interventions during this workshop.

The first was strategies in commitment. Changing behaviour and pursuit of goals has a two-pronged approach - psychological shifts & practical action. We used behavioural change intervention models to show avenues of building resilience mentally and physically.

The second was adapted to a common desire among the cohort - being a better leader. We used the concept of the Ask/Tell Matrix to upskill participants in their ability to lead their direct reports and coach them toward professional growth and fulfillment.

  • Participants took part in pre, during and post workshop surveys. This allowed us to track data on the five key deliverables.

Key Learnings & Improvements were as follows:

    Self-Understanding - 30% improvement

Purpose within Google - 18% more aligned

Clarity on Future Career - 38% clearer

    Self-Directed Behaviour Change - 9% retained changes

Anecdotally, participants viewed their future career with more positive intention and felt genuine support in the pursuit of their goals in and out of the office.

Michael and his team over-delivered across all aspects of this programme. We have already engaged Candour for next year’s PD both in APAC and AU.

William Buck - Accountants & Advisors

Problem?
Increase Motivation, Goal/Target Attainment and Foster Innovation

Solution?
Five On-Site Workshops | Purpose Driven Workforce

Client Case Study

William Buck is a leading accountant and business advisory firm comprising over 1,000 staff across its Australian and New Zealand operations. As a progressive and forethinking company, it’s Adelaide office engaged Candour Coaching to help improve motivation and performance for target/goal attainment and to create an environment that fosters innovation with a view to building high-performance teams.

  • We conducted a series of 5 on-site workshops at William Buck’s Adelaide offices with the goal of educating participants on the relevant theories to improve motivation and performance; arm individuals with actionable steps that they could implement immediately; and provide directors feedback on insights and recommendations from group discussion and post-workshop surveys.

  • The first workshop comprised a briefing with the organisation’s directors and managers to provide context to the program’s structure and theories. For this group, we also covered the support strategies that leaders could utilise to encourage the ongoing development of the practices taught in the program.

The following 4 workshops were held for select teams within the organisation and focused on providing individuals with evidence-based techniques and practical steps to create their own high performance and find greater fulfillment. These were held in a linear structure as follows:

    Workshop 1: Purpose and direction

To help participants live a life of purpose, we led them through a self-reflection exercise to identify their individual core values and find synergies with those of WIlliam Buck. This was followed by a goal setting session in which they were tasked to create their most outrageous personal and professional goals.

    Workshop 2:
Planning, process focus and habit creation

To reach their outrageous goals, participants explored the impact of habits, routine and discipline, and created their own daily actions and short-term steps using SMART goals.

    Workshops 3:
    Performance protocols

Participants received a deep dive into 3 key aspects to improve performance - motivation, performance foundations and optimal state of performance - and how they can apply these in their own lives.

    Workshop 4:
Courage and resilience (The human factor)

Two hurdles that regularly stop people from achieving are fear and effort. In this final workshop, participants completed exercises to unearth their own avenues of failure, and how to adapt and overcome these with courage and resilience.

  • Through the workshop series, we engaged with participants using interactive exercises to explore both the theoretical and practical elements of motivation and performance. While we assisted participants to unpack and understand their own values, a key component of William Buck’s program was empowering individual team members and managers with the right techniques and tools needed to take action to improve performance. Through the exercises, group discussions and post-program surveys, we also provided directors with a list of key insights and recommendations to action to encourage the ongoing development of their teams.

Understanding of Personal Values & Purpose: 70.8% improvement

    Goal Clarity: 62% improvement

    Goal Attainment Habits: 33% improvement

Habits for Health (Physical & Mental): Negligible % Change

Understanding of Personal Drivers & Motivators: 78% improvement

    Upheld changes: 65%(3-Months), 48%(6-Months)

Being a large employer of people in the formative stages of their careers we are always looking for innovative way to train our people beyond just the technical part of their roles. We found Michael’s approach comprehensive, clear and highly effective. Through the 4 workshops our people gained an in-depth understanding of the key drivers of motivation and performance, and developed the framework we needed to improve ourselves, both as individuals and as a team. Michael’s actionable tips have also been great to utilise on a day-to-day basis to keep us on track following the program. For both managers and team members, the program was highly engaging and very beneficial and don’t hesitate in recommending it for other corporate teams.
